Why we started
Too many bad retreats.
Too little honest advice.
The yoga retreat industry has a transparency problem. Operators post aspirational imagery, hide extra costs in footnotes, and rely on a constant churn of first-time visitors who don't know what to compare. Guest reviews are filtered. Directories accept payment for featured placement. Nobody is watching.
We built World's Yoga Retreats to be the resource we wished had existed: an editorially independent list of retreats that are genuinely worth your time, your money, and your annual leave — with enough detail that you can actually make an informed choice.
We focus on women because the women's retreat experience is distinct. The questions a woman asks about safety, group facilitation, accommodation privacy, and teacher quality are different. Most generic directories don't answer them. We do.
What we stand for
Four principles that guide every decision we make
Editorial independence
We are not an aggregator. No retreat pays to be listed, no operator buys a higher rating, and no affiliate commission changes our editorial position. We are funded by the women who book through us — not by the operators they book with.
Curation over volume
Most directories list thousands of retreats. We list dozens. We would rather have 30 genuinely excellent retreats across 20 destinations than 3,000 retreats we can't stand behind. Every listing passes five criteria. No exceptions.
Women at the centre
This is not a diversity checkbox. We built for women because the retreat market is overwhelmingly designed around mixed groups where women often feel unseen. Every retreat we list has been assessed specifically on how well it holds space for women.
Radical transparency
We show you our basis for every listing — whether we visited, verified with the operator, or researched from public sources. We publish everything we know about pricing, group sizes, and what's genuinely included. No hidden surprises.
Our house retreat
We run our own retreat in Rishikesh — so we know what we're asking operators to meet.
We don't just review retreats from the outside. We operate our own women's yoga retreat in Rishikesh — the origin of the practice, on the banks of the Ganga, with certified teachers who have practised here for years.
Running a retreat means we understand the logistics, the cost pressures, the staffing challenges, and the choices operators make. We know when a retreat is being honest about what it offers because we face those same choices ourselves.
Our Rishikesh retreat is the benchmark. Everything else is measured against it.
