Dharamsala Ashtanga Shala has established a consistent record across multiple programme cohorts. The yoga culture here is Tibetan-influenced: less Hatha and Vinyasa, more meditation, pranayama, and philosophy. Tushita Meditation Centre has been running serious Buddhist meditation retreats for forty years.
The operator’s teaching credentials are real: Ashtanga. The lineage — undefined — is documented and traceable, not invented for marketing purposes.
The Mysore-format practice gives each student individual attention within their own sequence. A led class mid-week grounds the group. Teaching follows the traditional method: posture, breath, gaze.
Sessions run twice daily. The morning practice opens the body and builds heat; the evening session completes the arc. The sequence across the week is deliberate — not the same class repeated seven times.
Maximum 8 guests per programme, which is small enough to guarantee individual teacher attention and large enough to support genuine group dynamics.
Practitioners who want to practice seriously in a setting that earns its environment. The combination of destination, teaching lineage, and group size creates conditions that a local studio class cannot replicate.
Pricing includes accommodation and all meals for the full programme duration. Transfer costs from the nearest international airport are not included — budget accordingly.
